The Practice is taking part in a Domestic Violence and Abuse project. This is to raise awareness of the problem and to give victims and perpetrators the help and support they need.
Domestic violence and abuse can happen to anyone. It can take place in any intimate or family relationship irrespective of age, race, sexuality and gender identity, socio-economic background or disability. Domestic violence and abuse is never a one-off event, it is not your fault and it is never ok to abuse someone.
What to do if you are a victim
If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, then call West Yorkshire Police on 999 or for non-emergencies call 101. You can also talk to any member of staff at the Surgery who will be able to refer you to our in-house Domestic Violence Counsellor.
When you attend an appointment at the surgery, if you are on your own, we will ask you a routine enquiry question such as ‘Have you ever felt threatened or controlled by your partner or other family member?’ You have the opportunity to discuss this with the clinician during your consultation or you can also take away a leaflet to read later. You can also log onto the Leeds Domestic Violence website or the National Respect Charity website for further help and information:
